Holy Wowzers!! Really Since Septiembre?!?

Hello,

It's been almost 7 months since my last blog entry. I think that means it's dead. Good thing for me It's named after the living dead so live on it shall.

SHIT! I've been busy, started a new job and back to the flames. In a lot of ways I love being under the gun and under the pressure. Pressure helps soldiers not to flinch when their friends get blown-up beside of them. I'm learning a lot again, which is wonderful, but I do need to balance work and life a little better, Belvedere is starting to get jealous.

No, silly, not the TV show about a jolly, sophisticated butler. Belvedere is our badass french bulldog. He rocks, he has the facial expressions of a toad and the ass of a landfill and we love every minute of it.

Still doing the diet thing, I've dropped over 60lbs now, so I'm proud of that, I just need to find the time to workout more.

Lately, other than work I'm either asleep or playing video-games as usual. You know Jared is working too much when the latest piece of GTA has been out for 12hrs and I haven't touched it. Maybe hell is freezing over with the economy. I'm also really into THE WATCHMEN graphic novel right now, I can't wait for the movie. The book is so good though that you'll catch me twittering quotes from it. I've gone on a trailer watching freeze until I finish. Everyday on my way to work I drive by a wall covered in WATCHMEN posters and I get giddy.

When I have free time and I can actually stomach being in front of a computer I'm illustrating. I'm not really working on any projects at the moment. Right now I'm just trying to improve my game, get faster, and become much more figurative. It's funny how actually learning new techniques can make you more efficient. I'm a creature of habit and I'm currently trying to kill that creature.

Well that's it, I want a mac.

I haven't updated anything in a really long time so tonight I present a flood of blog posts (See below).

Here though are a couple of my more recent illustration projects. The first are a set of wine labels for an independent winery out of the bay area and second is an invitation for a baby shower for a couple of friends. Upside-down bullies are the best.

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend. Mine was filled with illegal fireworks while the cops were around the corner, beer and lots of naps.

It's been almost six months since I started this diet and it's been going good. I'm a little more than 45lbs down and I'm really starting to feel better.

Today is a sad one for us. While I was cleaning and rearranging some things I realized that I haven't heard our turtle Stinky for a couple of days. Usually we don't but his food didn't look like it was eaten. So I looked in his box and found him dead in the back next to his towel.

Who knows where our Stinky friend came from. He was found over two years ago deep in the streets and was brought to the vetrinarian that my girlfriend Melinda worked at. he looked like he had seen some things, his shell was beat up, speckled in paint and chipped away. Melinda adopted Mr. Stinks and brought him to my house since she didn't have the room. He lived with us for over two years and he was a great addition to the family. He will be missed and we will always have a special place in our hearts for this unsocial little clackster.

Ugh, finally i'm back online, because of some stormage we lost our phone line and internet all last week. I spent the week watching Dexter and working on the illustration above. I'm kinda obsessed with oozing liquids right now, it seems like every illustration is oozing with something.

Fucking MACWORLD starts tomorrow, I'm so excited, instead of taking an alt+PrtScn I snapped a shot of my monitor with my iPhone then emailed it to the computer I'm sitting at GIRLY MAN MAN MAN. Usually I could give a shit about Macworld, but i'm excited about iPhone upgrades and the release of the SDK hopefully people with come up with better apps then Dopewars and tip calculators. Also rumors that they might unveil and more compact macbook, my pants are interested.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, started this week. I like it, for a TV show it's pretty good. There are still some really random parts that seem to be there just to move the episode along and don't really make any sense. Another thing that gets me is, Sarah Connor doesn't seem to be old enough to be John's mother. I don't know if it's cause she looks to young or if she doesn't look as haggard as Linda Hamilton looked in T2 GIRLY MAN MAN MAN. Whatever the fuck it's got a hot robot ass kicking chick played by the hot ass kicking chick from Serenity. That is a perfect reason to watch.

This is a a current illustration I started last night. I always wanted to do a Japanese mask like this, they are fun, smooth and symmetrical. All I've been doing lately is furry creatures. It's good though, it keeps me doing something productive other than playing Call of Duty 4 all night.

Heat Signature Kaleidoscopes

Last night Melinda and I went and witness the majesty that is Tool in concert at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. The show was two hours of beautiful, brain numbing sensor candy. The seats were decent, about middle stage first row balcony. Too bad we had to wait two and a half hours in a sardine packed crowd to get in. Above is a small clip from the show.

Like I said they played for two hours which was great. During the Grudge, Tim Alexander the drummer from Primus and the drummer from the opening band Trans Am played the drum solo with Danny Carey, it fucking rocked. The second nugget of sexy was a special appearance by Jello Biafra from Dead Kennedys and along side Tool they played Holiday in Cambodia. What really did it for me though was that they played Wings for Marie pt 1 and 10,000 Day (Wings for Marie pt 2). I've been wanting to see this live all three times I've seen them this tour. It was amazing.

I also bought a sweet Litho after the show with all the bands signatures, It's getting framed ASAP. Also, while Melinda and I were walking back to the venue after grabbing some food, we walked by Adam Jones the guitarist, I wanted to ask for a picture but I pussed out.

Yeah so I've been neglecting my blog for a little while and I'm sorry.

A lot of shit has been going on.

1. Got a fucking iPhone: it's the best $400.00 I have spent in a long time.
2. Patti and Daryl got hitched: This is the most recent, I spent the weekend in Oakland (the Pelinsina) for their wedding events. The wedding itself was in Treasure Island and beautiful. Congratulations!! On the way we saw a man driving on the freeway wearing leather cuffs and bondage chains without a t-shirt, it was hot!
3. Halo 3: It's consumed my gaming life, I sat in line to get the Legendary Edition. when I leave for work I wish I was at home to spend time with it.
4. Work: by day: same old shit
5. Work: by night: I redesigned ZombiePixel.com and it's almost finished so that should be up soon
6. the 49ers: the announcer during the Seahawks game said it perfectly "the 49ers can't execute anything". It makes me sad in the pants :(

I finally received the Hydro 74 books that I ordered WOO HOO! I've been waiting for these puppies for a couple of weeks. I don't know if it was because they traveled clear across the country but they got a little banged up on the trip :( . The typography book got bent down the spine and the book of works got some kind of fluid on it near the spine so for about the first 20 pages were glued together at that spot. Fuck it though they are still great. These are definitely a couple to add to my collection. It's good to finally see some of his work printed.

This is a beautiful sight. 10 pre-marinated tri-tips hanging in a smoking barrel.

It was a pretty eventful weekend. Saturday Melinda and I went and saw Superbad, fucking hilarious. I also saw Green Street Hooligans which was a lot better then I expected. The Forty Niners beat the Raiders in the Battle of the Bay pre-season game. I'm sure all you raider fans will just use the "it's only pre-season" excuse but,, YEAH BITCHEZ,, GO NINERS!!!!

On the ZombiePixel.com front, the website is getting very close to completion. I was planning on having it up by now but I made a last minute decision that caused me to do more in order to create a more streamlined UI.

Finally last night I broke down and watched Apocalypto. I loved it, A friend told me to watch it because "heads will roll" and wow did they ever. Too bad Mel had to go and reveal the antisemitic drunk inside because this movie should have destroyed the box office. Watch it you will <3 it.

Yesterday was also my birthday and my girlfriend awesomely got me the force feedback steering wheel for the Xbox 360. I've come to realize that yeah it's not real but it's pretty damn close, and racing cars is really hard. If I don't finish a race in 2nd to last place i'm finishing the race in the wall :(. But fun it still is.

So I had nothing to do this afternoon and therefore decided to finally check out Transformers. I'm not going to right a review for this, it's a fuckin summer blockbuster, lots of pretty images and lots of bad storyline. It did however awaken that hard robotic spot in my heart where transformers used to live. but instead of feeling like I should go out and buy the toys again I some how feel the urge to buy a General Motors car and some Burger King. I just wish I could make that reh reh reh noise.

In other news there is no news I've spent the weekend recouping from sickness and can't wait to get back in the swing of things. I did see Bear Grylls skin a rotting mountain deer and use its skin as a shelter while keeping warm with hot canteen full of urine, that was nice.

I'm getting the most out of this monitor. Last night I purchase the vga cables for the xbox 360. Now I can play in 1080p widescreen in perfect time for the Halo 3 beta to start. I can't fucking wait. Woo, ehhh, ok, hold, let me catch my breath. After a long night and early morning of drinking beer I dragged my ass home and went to sleep. Later in the day I decided dust off Halo 2 and start playing online again. After getting my ass handed to me a few games I started dual wielding like I used to. I should be wary though, because according to ass-clown Jack Thompson playing a game like Halo means that sometime in the future I'm going to go on a killing spree because I've been trained to do so. Just like those that play Madden football video games get drafted by the NFL all the time (paraphrased analogy from Mr. Massey).

Maybe I'm not a hardcore PC gamer. I don't want to spend an entire day accomplishing one thing. I want to get my fix then go about my fleshy existence. Since the conception of my new computer I've decided to buy the latest shooter game and stretch my PC's legs .

I picked up S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl.

Its cool I guess but I think meant for the hardcore computer folks that love nothing more than sitting in front of the screen for days at a time drinking coke and eating hot pockets. The shooting though realistic gives the player the feeling that they have zero experience shooting a gun. Maybe I suck, but because of this I die a lot. I find the story very broken and the non-linear path is very hard to stay on. The mutant dogs and walking honey-glazed hams are cool but wouldn't there be a larger catalogue of mutants out there, other then some dogs, pigs and walking hams?. Crows are always flying over head yet there are no mutant birds. I am only like eight hours into it and feel like I've done a lot of walking and have eaten a lot of salami sticks. The game is cool, its not perfect and I don't know if it will keep my interest for much longer but if you like hot pockets and walking holiday meats then this might be right up your alley.

I'm proud to say this is the first post from my brand new bad, motha-fuckin, throat-rippin, kick-ass computer. With the help from the other Jared we got it assembled and working in about four hours. It's so quiet, black and faster than hell. I can't wait to log numerous hours on her at a time.

So I went and saw Grindhouse last night. It was alright it had it's good parts I guess. Yeah fucking right, It was the best thing since,, shit I don't even know. It was about three hours long but you didn't really feel it. Planet Terror was non-stop action from beginning to end, great characters and buckets and buckets of slimy low budget blood. Death Proof was just as I expected great Tarantino to be. I'm not going to say anything else. Block out a few hours and go see this movie.

On the home front, today the assembly of my computer begins, I can't wait. Hopefully everything go smoothly.

I'm so fucking excited, I'm a hard-drive and OS away from putting the computer together. To me a computer is a lot like a car, when they start becoming unreliable driving them fucking sucks. That's where I'm at with my old home PC. So the fact that soon I will be able to strap on the 'Ole ear buds and design for hours at a time is awesome. I can't wait to work without the worries and the paranoia of my computer over heating or crashing.

With that said, expect to see a lot more design/art related materials posted, as well as the development of the Zombie Pixel website. There is also another project I'm working on that I can't type about yet, because I might have to kill myself.

Its the third day of the diet and still going strong. I made brown rice and stir-fried peas last night for dinner (I'm no chef) and it was pretty tasty. I'm kind of fighting myself from going hardcore on this diet. I'm a great example of, "the faster you lose the faster you gain it back" philosophy. So I'm trying not to think of it so much as a diet, but a better way of living that will lead to a sexy man-beast in time.

Well today it starts, the war against terror. A war that will be determined by numbers. A war to keep our lands safe from tyranny and oppression. That's right, today my diet starts.

It has only been about two hours since I got out of bed, but its seems to be going strong. I'm eating some grapes and drinking a cup of green tea. I'm also probably going to start playing basketball and eventually get back to the gym. I mentioned in my last post that I was planning on documenting my weight loss through photography, I took my first shots last night, holy shit I'm fat. Well its good though, that way the changes will be dramatically noticeable, an advantage I have over all the thinner fucks trying to lose lbs.

Not A GTAIV Post

Another week to the record books. The last week for gluttony. I've made the healthy decision to get back on the horse starting Monday. No not the white horse, just that horse that gallops on the path of will power. Its time to shed some lbs and get back to my jockey weight. No more snacks at the office and no more late night fast food dinners.

Of course there will be rewards on this path. I haven't figured out what they will be but I'm sure they will have something to do with video games, strippers or glue sniffing. I guess I need to figure all this out by monday. I'm also thinking about conducting my Celebrity Fit Club before and after animation and I think to keep me on track I will periodically post it to the blog, maybe.

I gotta tell you, it blew the fucking doors off of anything out there. The level of detail and style Rockstar is known for is apparent in this.

Nevada Recap

From the previous post you should have figured out that me and my girlfriend were heading to Nevada on Thursday. We did, and luckily no snow going or coming :).

Her parents have miles upon miles of BLM desert land to their backs. Its government owned land I think, that can't be developed on. For all the other city folk out there, it looks a lot like the Hills Have Eyes. My girlfriend, her dad and myself all took off into this land on her dads new quad bike. We drove the quad and her dad drove his 3-wheeler. To make a long story short we racked up 41 miles on the quad Friday and had a blast doing it. We also got to shoot some guns at some stuff, which was also fucking awesome. I made one huge mistake on this trip though, I forgot the camera at home. so posted with this is a picture taken from my camera phone. Overall all this trip to Nevada has probably been the best so far.

Three things I learned:

1. Me + .22 handgun + 10ft = dead water bottle
2. girlfriend + scoped 223 rifle + 100yd = bulls eye (might not be a good thing)
3. Wind + sun + sand = dirty, chapped, sun burnt

Traveling During Winter

You know what? I don't care what you say. I'm a fucking city dwelling species. I like concrete, strategically planted trees and squares of grass. I rarely ever travel to the woods or any sort of rough terrain. Sure I love nature and the occasional baby squirrel fight. Maybe its my over all paranoia, but I hate traveling through harsh conditions. I'm leaving tomorrow for Fallon Nevada and I'm really excited to get there but my worry about hitting snow on the way has consumed my day. All the weather reports say we will be snow free, but again I'm checking it constantly thinking the 100 year storm is waiting for me to begin the trek. I think I need prescription drugs for this problem.

As of last night I can no longer say I'm an oyster virgin. Yeah that's right, I tried barbecued oysters for the first time. I know, 25 years old is such a long time to wait but it was bound to happen sooner or later. The stars aligned, the mood was right and covered in butter and garlic.

Honestly though, I wasn't that big into them, they were OK. I can't see myself having a craving for them any time soon. It was missing tapatio which is supposed to set them off, so maybe that's what I needed.

If rock music tickles your fancy, you need to check out The Sword. I had the pleasure of watching them fucking slaughter the crowd last night at The Uptown nightclub in Oakland. Me and my girlfriend made the trek with friends Daryl, Patty and their friend Fitz. It was a great time, great sound and great atmosphere. Because of a job I had to be at early this morning, I couldn't party as hard as I wanted to, but Daryl and Patty did enough Jager-bombs for the five of us |m|/. Also opening for The Sword was Year Long Disaster, they fucking rocked it as well and I can't wait for an album from those guys.

Well anyway, may the winter wolves strip the life from your souls.

Its always good do discover cool shit for the first time. Most of the time this cool, newly discovered shit sits in the back of your mind like something on an unconsious to-do list. As of today it has been crossed off.

A co-worker let me borrow season 1 of Samurai Jack. I'm fucking hooked. The stories are cool the animation and direction is sheer brilliance. If anyone out there has never given it a chance please do so. Since there are three seasons containing something like 52 episodes, I think I have found something to fill my monday nights.

Oh also God of War II is coming out next Tuesday the 13th, thats a deffinite must buy for any ps2 owner. I've also heard it upscales to 720p on the ps3 so even better if you were one of the 12 people that actually bought one to use.

So i've been into Heroes since the first episode and even though i'm a huge Lost fan i'm into Heroes more at this point. Last night was such a good episode. Come to find out at the end it was the last episode until April 23rd. What the hell? Why does the show have to take another break? Lets just hope Lost starts kicking ass again.

Oh and what about that exclusive look at Spiderman 3, what a meaningless crock of shit. I guess I was expecting them to show the trailer with Venom that they showed at Wondercon this past weekend, but they didn't.

A pretty much kick back weekend, Friday night me and the lady went to Texas Road House for her birthday dinner. The food was great but I didn't dig the atmosphere. Country music, peanut shells, waiters and waitresses that probably puke from how much corporate bullshit they have to spew out every night and the over all noise level is not my cup of tea.

Saturday we went to a friends house to watch the UFC fights. It was one of the best UFC events i've seen in a long time. Sobral got caught by a wicked left hooked from McDonald that made his ear wiggle. The Natural Randy Couture beat the shit out of Tim Sylvia, thank god. Also my girlfriend got nice and drunk and is paying for it today, :p.

Now its Sunday, i've been cleaning, I haven't showered and I have nothing else to blog about.

I've had my feet in a few pretty distinct businesses. For some reason there is always this idea that work should not be fun and all fun therefore should be speared through the head and put on display so the workers know what fun looks like and how its delt with. When will companies realize that to keep people happy you should make them feel like they are appreciated and that its the companies privelige to have that employee, not the other way around.

Maybe its wishful thinking or maybe its just business life, but i've had a taste of what it means to be proud and i've seen what working in a wonderful team looks like. The skies seem to be growing dark and that makes the muscles in my neck and mouth pull downwards.

I being someone that loves a good violent videogame just read the news that Manhunt 2 will be out for the PS2, PSP and Wii this summer. I can't wait, the original manhunt was one of the most simplistic yet extremely engaging video game experiences I have ever had. Hopefully I can get through some of the other games I haven't finished before this comes out.

Yesterday while the girlfriend and I were out shopping I decided to stop by a very crappy local game-exchange. I was in search of a Castlevania game for the GBA and no other retailer in my city had shit. This game-exchange is really my last resort, the selection usually does donkey shows. I walk in and holy fuck, out of the 10 used and dusty GBA games they had, there it was. I immediatley purchased it and headed home.

On my way I noticed the label on the cartridge looked bootlegged. The ESRB logo was out of proportion, the image pixelated and the name unreadable. Obviously it wasn't the original and it made me wonder what was wrong with it. Possibly the cartridge could have held government secrets or even the cure for cancer. It turned out though that there were no secrets or any cures,, the game must have gotten wet or something and the previous owner tried to create a new label in the hopes of scoring three dollars of store credit. The game hardly worked and when it did, it wouldn't let me save, and behaved very buggy. 0-5 and sadly I gave up the search, I took the game back, got my money and called it a day. What was dull then exciting was dull once more.

I thought atleast I could go home and watched the Chargers beat New England, but for the sixth time that day I was disappointed. No Eagles, No Chargers :( GO CHICAGO!! and thank Jesus the Seahawks lost :)

Monterey Recap

Buenos Gatos,

last weekend me and the lady decided to spend our anniversary in Monterey by the ocean. Besides for the cold weather it was a great time. We hopped, skipped and jumped from beach to beach along the coast line. We got a little wet, met a couple of hermit crabs, enjoyed the gorgeous views and had dinner at the Chart House in Cannery Row. The food was great and so was the ocean-side window view.

Then things got a little wierd. We got back to our economy priced hotel room only to discover that (atleast when we arrived) we were the only people there. An entire hotel with no occupied rooms are a little creepy. It stayed that way all night and when we left we found out that a few more people were staying there but on the opposite side.

All in all it was an awesome trip,
